On Tuesday, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed that India currently lacks the willingness to take steps towards normalizing relations with Pakistan after enduring repeated betrayals.
During the launch of the book ‘Wither India-Pakistan Relations Today?’ edited by former ambassador Surendra Kumar, Tharoor urged Pakistan to demonstrate sincerity by dismantling terrorist networks operating from its territory. The MP from Thiruvananthapuram highlighted that every effort made by India, from the 1950 agreement between Jawaharlal Nehru and Liaquat Ali Khan to Atal Bihari Vajpayee's bus journey to Lahore in 1999 and Narendra Modi's visit to Lahore in 2015, has been met with hostility from across the border, resulting in a sense of betrayal.
He stated, “Given the record of Pakistani behavior, the onus is on them. They must take the first serious step to eliminate the terrorist infrastructure on their soil.”
